The Circus & Boulevard

The Circus & Boulevard is a new open space for the Northgate Neighbourhood. Utilising play and open space, the Boulevard connects the District Centre with the eastern end of Barking Riverside. This exciting part of Barking Riverside is set to deliver play areas and sports facilities, as well as spaces to socialise, relax and hold events.

In Autumn 2023, residents were polled via Thames Talk, where ideas where shared for the Circus & Boulevard. In March 2024, BRL shared the updated plans with you over two engagement sessions.

BRL have now submitted an application to the Council (London Borough of Barking and Dagenham). You can find out more about our proposals for this area below.

This area is designed to support connections, both north/south and east/west, with bus routes, cycle routes and pedestrian access. BRL also wants the Circus & Boulevard to feature as much green planting as possible, with trees, green areas, flowers and shrubs.

BRL worked with the charity ‘Make Space for Girls’, which leads research into how parks and play spaces can be designed inclusively for teenage girls and other vulnerable groups. They advised us on how we could make the social spaces feel safe, whilst also making them places that people will want to dwell in.
